Healing in Christ (v.18-19)
Power in Christ
He has power to heal any physical ailment
Sickness/ Disease/ Physical or mental disability.
Ch. 8 He healed a man with leprosy
Beginning of Ch. 9 He heals a paralytic man
He has healed the blind, the mute and the demoniacs
Power that was given to Him by His Father in Heaven
John 3:2 “...Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.””
John 14:11 ““Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.”
John 11:41–43 “So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. “And I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the crowd standing around I said this, so that they may believe that You sent Me.” And when He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.””
Power in Faith
Three distinct occasions in the Scriptures where Jesus says that it is the faith of the individual that saved, healed or made whole.
The Leper who returned to thank Him (Luke 17:11-19)
The blind beggar (Mark 10:46-52)
The woman suffering with the hemorrhage (Matthew 9:19-22)
Faith has the power to:
Please God (Hebrews 11:6)
Bring answers to prayers (Matthew 21:22)
Strengthen the hope within us (Hebrews 11:1)
Change lives (Galatians 2:20)
Bring healing to our bodies and souls (Matthew 9 & Romans 1:17)
Power Recognized.
The synagogue official
Mark and Luke tell us the officials name is Jairus. (Mark 5:22-43 & Luke 8:41-56)
His 12 year old daughter is dying, basically dead already from some sickness
He recognized that Christ had the power to heal her and reverse whatever was wrong with her. That by the touch of His hand, she will live and be made well.
So in spite of any ridicule he might receive from his companions and coworkers, he invited Jesus to his house because he recognized the power Jesus had.
The woman with the hemorrhage recognized His power and thought “If I only touch His garment, I will be saved from this.” (v.21)
His power was recognized by the two blind men and the demon-possessed man.
It was done for the blind men according to their faith in Him and His power.
Faith in Christ (v.20-21)
God’s Promise in Christ
The power is not found in our faith but rather in the object of our faith.
We put our faith in Jesus Christ and our faith is activated with a power promised only in the Name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Acts 4:12 ““And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.””
Philippians 2:9–11 “Therefore, God also highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
It is in the Name of Jesus that the demons are subject to us. (Luke 10:17)
It is the Name of the Lord that one is saved when they call upon it. (Romans 10:13)
If we want forgiveness of sin then we must repent and be baptized in the Name of Christ (Acts 2:38)
Our Faith in Christ (Mark 5:24-34)
She was about out of hope and faith
She could not be helped by anyone/ doctors, physicians
She had spent all the money that she had
She heard of this Man named Jesus and gave to Him the only ounce of faith she had left.
“I just need to touch His garments” she said. “And I will be saved from this.”
Not a “...might be saved,” nor did she consider it a possibility but rather a certainty.
This is such a great faith, one many of us struggle with today.
She pushes through the crowd and reaches for Jesus. Luke records she gets just the fringe of His garments.
Immediately she was healed. To the point she could tell instantly that her bleeding had stopped.
God had healed her.
Jesus was not paying attention to this woman/ They were not making eye contact/ Jesus had no idea she was even there or what her problem was.
All He knew is that power had gone out from Him and He immediately began inquiring as to what just happened.
Mark 5:30 “And immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and was saying, “Who touched My garments?””
God saw the whole thing go down.
He saw her reach out towards His Son in faith and kept His promise to heal her.
Jesus knew this and told the woman that her faith made her well/ It was her faith that pleased God to answer her prayer and heal her.
That last bit of “mustard seed” faith, God restored her for it.
Reaching for Christ
We must learn to reach to Christ in faith.
Stop reaching to physicians, doctors, medicines, counselors and therapists.
Stop reaching to financial advisors, politicians, constitutions and creeds.
God honors those who honors His Son.
He will do much in the Name of His Anointed.
How often do you reach to places where there is nobody or no thing that can help you/ Like this woman did for years?
How much recourses have you poured out into things other than Christ while withholding faith in Him?
How many prayers are prayed with a “will do” attitude rather than a “might do” mentality?
Put your faith in Jesus, Extend your reach to Christ and He will, not only bring restoration but make you one of His very own.
Belonging in Christ (v.22)
Adoption by the Son
Once we are in Christ, the Father receives us into His family
We become sons and daughters of God through the Son of God.
Jesus calls us brothers and sisters.
The privilege is ours to call upon the God of creation as our Father (Matthew 23:9)
Ephesians 1:4–5 “just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him in love, by predestining us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,”
Romans 8:16–17 “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, also heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”
Set Free by the Son
Reaching the point of our salvation where we are glorified in Heaven with our Lord.
Set free from the bondage of sin forever more.
John 8:34–36 “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. “And the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”
In Christ we receive the gift of belonging where man has always belonged, in the eternal presence of the Most High.
He looks to us men of God and calls us sons.
He looks to you women of God and calls you daughters
We all become brothers and sisters in Christ, members, each one of us; the family of God.
Loved by the Father
1 John 3:1 “See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we would be called children of God; and we are....”
God loves us and has made wonderful promises to us in the Name of His Son.
He will keep every one of them.
It would change out lives if we were to do a study on the promises of God in Christ Jesus and believed them.
To pray our prayers in accordance with the promises of God in the Bible.
In Christ we gain the love of God, a love that the world knows not. And cannot know, for they do not know Him. Amen.
